The biggest lie: all manufacturing jobs will disappear
The biggest lie circulating right now:
“All manufacturing jobs will disappear.”
Total BS, friend.
Here’s what nobody’s talking about:
AI isn’t “ending” manufacturing.
It’s changing the work.
Let me explain…
In the U.S. in 1900, about 41% of workers were in agriculture.
Today, direct on-farm jobs are about ~1–2% (around 1.2% in 2022).
Did total employment collapse?
No.
Work shifted.
• New industries emerged
• New skills became valuable
• Living standards rose
Manufacturing is going through the same kind of shift.
Yes:
• Some tasks will be automated
• Some roles will shrink
• New roles will grow fast (especially the ones that keep automation running)
Because robots don’t run themselves.
They need to be:
• Designed
• Integrated
• Programmed
• Maintained
• Troubleshot
• Improved
That means more demand for:
• Automation techs
• Controls / PLC folks
• Robotics and maintenance specialists
• Process / quality engineers
• Industrial data + systems people
Not “less opportunity.”
Different opportunity.
One important truth (and this is the part most people miss):
Manufacturing output can grow even if headcount doesn’t explode.
So the move isn’t “pray jobs come back.”
The move is: be the person who makes modern manufacturing work.
The opportunity is massive:
• Learn automation
• Get comfortable with PLCs, robots, sensors
• Understand data, downtime, and OEE
• Become the person everyone calls when the line is down
The future belongs to people who adapt.
Not people who complain.
You’ve got two choices:
1. Fear the change
2. Become the change
